Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his first trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after that period of that year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight third set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
